Thats me requesting the 6 th pull up to Tinnie Tempha’s Pass Out at Trading Places. Too much fun.
Anyway, enough of the digressing. So as you are probably aware i wrote that rather disparaging article about the Puma Africa collection. So why go to the launch party i hear you ask? Would a food critic re-visit a restaurant they only gave 1 star to? NO. Would a music journo go out of their way to interview an artist who’s album they dissed? NO, because they are pussies. Yes cowards. Me on the other hand, i like to take things from the frying pan to the fire. I wrote that article, and it was MY opinion, and understandably i got inundated with emails and tweets about it- a lot positive, some negative, so what better way of being able to PROPERLY interact and engage in a discourse about this than go to the centre of it? This is exactly what i did, i scampered along to the party and got lots of feed back, some compliments, argued a bit, all of which i am not going to go into on here. But, you know what, it represented something much bigger for me, how great fashion can be at creating conversation. You and me are of the generation where we communicate more than ever, twitter, facebook, myspace blah blah, but what can you really ever say in 140 characters? I know this is real cheese factor, but lets use this freedom of speech and take it from 2D to reality. Start challenging and arguing and disagreeing stop being complacent and horizontal, stand tall and don’t be afraid to voice your opinion, even if it feels your the only one in the world who has it.
